What is the LEADJITSU Mentor's Kata?
The LEADJITSU Mentor’s Kata is a transformative mentorship program designed to guide leaders on their journey to mastering the art of leadership. Inspired by the disciplined practice of kata in martial arts, this program provides a structured path for personal and professional growth. Through one-on-one mentorship with seasoned leaders, participants will develop leadership skills rooted in the LEADJITSU Leader’s Code, emphasizing respect, discipline, humility, and resilience.
Mentorship vs. Coaching: What’s the Difference?
While both mentorship and coaching are valuable tools for leadership development, they serve different purposes and offer unique approaches to growth. In the LEADJITSU Mentor’s Kata, we focus on the deeper, long-term journey of mentorship while integrating coaching techniques as needed.
Mentorship is a long-term, relational experience where a more experienced leader provides guidance, wisdom, and support to help mentees navigate their leadership journey. Mentorship focuses on the overall personal and professional development of the individual, allowing for deep, reflective growth. In the LEADJITSU Mentor’s Kata, mentors act as “senseis,” sharing their experiences, providing advice, and helping mentees develop their own leadership style.
Coaching, on the other hand, is typically more short-term and goal-focused. A coach helps individuals achieve specific objectives, offering actionable feedback, and helping them overcome immediate challenges. Coaching focuses on improving skills or behaviors within a defined period.
What to Expect from the LEADJITSU Mentor’s Kata
Group Guidance: Each participant is assigned to a mentoring cohort (Kata) where they are guided and supported as they progress towards their goals and leadership aspirations. Mentors will provide personalized advice and experiential sharing while helping mentees develop the skills needed to become impactful leaders.
Kata Discipline: Just as in martial arts, the Mentor’s Kata emphasizes consistent practice. Mentees will engage in regular sessions where they will refine their leadership approach, assess their progress, and hone their ability to inspire and lead others.
Action-Oriented Learning: Throughout the program, mentees will be challenged to apply the LEADJITSU Leader’s Code—including principles like Dojo Respect, Warrior’s Courage, and Empathetic Connection—to real-world leadership scenarios.
Long-Term Growth: Unlike short-term coaching, this mentorship program is designed for long-term development. Participants will continue to evolve their leadership skills over time, learning from both successes and challenges along the way.
